In 2013, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, beginning a journey that would last until the end of 2015.
My first instinct was fear, but that fear quickly turned into faith. I had always believed in God, but this was different. During that time, I felt God in my spirit in a way I had never experienced before.
The abundance of love and support pouring in from people around the world was something I had never experienced. The prayers, encouragement, and love that surrounded me were overwhelming. Deep in my heart, I knew it was nothing but God.
A year before my diagnosis, I had lost my beloved dog, Keegan. The loss of my sweet Keegan was heartbreaking. My daughter gave me a stuffed animal to help ease the pain of losing him. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture, but at the time, I placed it on a shelf and left it untouched.
That changed when I began my first round of chemotherapy.
During that difficult time, I found myself holding that stuffed animal, crying into it, rocking it, and cuddling it. I held onto it so much that eventually, the stuffing began to come out.
Throughout my cancer journey, that stuffed little animal gave me a comfort that I never could have imagined. It became something I could hold onto during the moments when I was scared, hurting, or simply needed to feel comforted.
Of course, it could never replace the cuddles, companionship, and unconditional love I shared with my sweet Keegan. Nothing ever could. But that little stuffed animal helped ease the emptiness just a little.
Looking back, I believe God knew exactly what I would need before I even knew I needed it. What seemed like a simple gift from my daughter became a source of comfort during one of the most difficult seasons of my life.
Sometimes, God sends us comfort in the smallest and most unexpected ways, and I think Naughty Pawzz is just that. A wonderful company that is creating a loving space where women facing breast cancer and the fur babies who stand faithfully beside them can feel supported, comforted, and never alone.
